Ridge Forensics is the interscholastic speech and debate team of Ridge High School, coached by David Yastremski. Throughout the school year, the team travels to tournaments at the regional, state, and national level.
Students compete in the following events: Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Public Forum Debate, Student Congress, Extemporaneous Speaking, Original Oratory, Declamation, Prose Reading, Poetry Reading, Oral Interpretation, Dramatic Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, Duo Interpretation and Program Oral Interpretation.
The Ridge Forensics team competes in the New Jersey Forensic League, the Newark Catholic Forensic League, and the National Speech and Debate Association. Click the logos for each organization to learn more.
Any Ridge High School student may audition for the team. Information about auditions (held in September) will be available at the beginning of each academic year. The tournament season begins in late October and concludes in March, with national championships held in May and June.
The National Speech and Debate Association (formerly known as the National Forensics League) is a major organization that directs high school speech and debate events. Every June, the National Speech and Debate Association hosts the NSDA Finals, which students qualify for at the New Jersey District Tournament in March.
The New Jersey Forensic League holds several tournaments every year at locations like Freehold Township High School, Summit High School, Bridgewater Raritan High School, and Ridge High School, culminating with NJFL State Championship Tournament every year on March.
The National Catholic Forensic League is also a major organization of high school speech and debate events along with the National Speech and Debate Association. Ridge High School competes in the Newark Catholic Forensics League at 6 CFL tournaments over the course of the year to qualify students for the National Catholic Forensic League Grand National Tournament on May.
